Teaching Experience
Mr. S has been teaching in a classroom setting as a music teacher for the last 7 years at El Rancho Elementary School in Carmichael and has about 40 private music students whom he teaches piano, guitar, and bass. Over the years, Mr. S has seen many young students eager to learn music struggling with the very basics – beat, pitch, and rhythm. With this valuable insight, Mr. S has created a curriculum for children ages 4-5 years old that emphasizes these essentials and strengthens the foundation for learning an instrument.
Mr. S understands that there is an important time before children are ready to take private music lessons. It is during this time that they can be taught valuable skills to better prepare them for a successful future in music, such as how to keep a steady beat, how to hear a pitch and match it vocally, and how to read and understand basic music notation. These skills can give children a head start in learning a musical instrument.

Education

Mr. S obtained his Bachelors in Music from University California at Santa Barbara in 1999. He then went on to earn his Masters in Music from San Francisco State in 2001.

Performance Work

Mr. S’s instrument of choice is the upright bass and since completing his schooling has played professionally with The North State Symphony, Modesto Symphony, Napa Symphony, Sacramento Philharmonic, and The Jazz Minions. Mr. S has had the wonderful opportunity to play at The Mondovi Center in Davis as well as Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. In addition to his symphony and jazz work and teaching at El Rancho School Mr. S is also the Music Director for the Fair Oaks United Methodist Church.
Mr. S looks forward to the opportunity of working with your child at Kids Can Music and helping build their music foundation.
